Blow to Training Club
The Underground Fight club situated in Invercargill has been ousted by the community from their school hall training where they had set up their fight club due to its negative impact on the community harmony.
The club was established on the basis of inspiration from the Brad Pitt starrer movie Fight Club (1999). There were no particular rules that were followed; it was just a bunch of simple lawless hitting people. However the club founder Terry Kennard has denied all the allegations.
Mr. Kennard had to take some time-out due to his knee injury last February otherwise there was no miss in the club sessions that were twice a week in the Invercargill Middle School since August 2011. When he was planning to reopen his club he received a mail from the Principal of the school, Stan Tiatia which said that he was requested to withdraw his hiring for his fight club as soon as possible because a worried member of the community has filed a complaint against them after being scared of the information about the club at Trade Me.
What Mr. Tiatia had to say was that a school could not close the eyes to the type of image or impression that people may have regarding a ‘fight club’ and that mixed martial arts was quite different from the fight clubs. He also complained that they have not received any payment for the hiring of the training hall.
Countering his statements, Kennard said that it had been a complete ‘misinterpretation’ and ‘misunderstanding’ and that it was never a fight club but just a gym for working out. People faced minor injuries out there because they were not professional enough and the injuries included only a nail scratch and bleeding nose of a man when the injured had a pad kicked on to his face.
Kennard is now looking for a new location for club training.
