FIRST MMA EVENT PULLS A LOT OF PEOPLE
The first ever MMA event at fairgrounds drew a lot of crowds who came to witness it. In their first attempt to bring regular MMA and boxing cards to Santa Cruz, the three-time world champion Moreno, her trainer Rick Noble and business partners Robert Terrance and Jerry Glover filled the JJ Crosetti Building for the Coastal Collision card at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds.
An enthusiastic crowd of an estimated 750 people watched Santa Cruz's Marco Del Real win in the main event and Watsonville's Gabriel Haro and Manuel Diaz and Aptos' AJ Versaw win in their debuts. Watsonville's Juan Ortiz and Guillermo Rocha and Santa Cruz's Brian Schatz weren't so fortunate.
"A lot of people have been coming up to me and telling me, I'm glad you're putting on a show like this,'" Moreno said. "Then obviously they tell me, We want to see you fight.' That will come next."
