WILDER: JOSHUA WILL DEFEAT KLITSCHKO
Deotay Wilder has declared that British-Nigerian fighter Anthony Joshua (AJ) would defeat his counterpart Ukrainian Wladimir Klitschko when the due clash in the coming year.
Wilder told Boxing News: Joshua is at top level, and my heart tells me he will beat Klitschko.”
“I still believe that father time is at Klitschko’s door but I think he still has a little bit left in him. It was an embarrassment that he got beat by Tyson Fury. You’re looking at a champions who ruled the division for a decade and all of a sudden you get a loss,” Wilder added of the fighter’s loss before the pairing with Joshua.
Wilder added that Klitschko would be seeking “redemption” against Joshua but quickly added “AJ is young, strong and just as tall and most of the time in those situations the young guy prevails.”
Since dethroning Bermane Stiverne in early 2015, Wilder has remained the WBC champ. He regularly faces criticisms for his choice of challengers. The Bronze Bomber as he is fondly called, has beaten off attempts from Eric Molina, Johann Duhaupass, Artur Szpilka and Arreola. The 31-old faced mostly unknown faces and many want him to battle real challengers to prove his superiority.
“I don’t believe ‘You are going to suck because I don’t know you’, that’s just the ignorance of your average boxing fan. Some of these fans feel like they got to have heard of the fighters or they got to be a known name – but sometimes you don’t know from now until way back in time, most of the foreign guys you knew about until they made a big splash,” Wilder says in defence.
Wilder could face new WBO champion Joseph Parker in a bid for unification after the fighter defeated Andy Ruiz in December.
